Where the prediction sites disagree

The honest read: treat the ordering as more reliable than the numbers. Consensus on who sits in the top tier is fairly stable. Consensus on the exact OVR is not, and anyone presenting a single number as settled is overselling what they know.

The biggest predicted upgrades

Lamine Yamal is the safe bet

Yamal went to 89 in FC 26 — the biggest upgrade in that game. Predictions now put him at 90–91, and this is the one forecast almost nobody disputes.

The reason is structural, not sentimental. EA’s ratings tend to lag genuine breakout seasons by a cycle, because the model leans on sustained output rather than a single hot run. Yamal has now given them the sustained part. A player already at 89 with that trajectory going to 90 isn’t a bold call, it’s the default outcome.

The interesting question is whether he goes to 91 and joins the ceiling tier outright. That would make him the youngest player to top the game in the series’ history, which is exactly the sort of thing EA’s marketing likes.

A predicted 88 who plays every week in his best position and stays fit may spend most of the season performing above that. A predicted 91 carrying an injury and poor morale may not.

How to use ratings predictions without getting burned

Three things worth keeping in mind between now and the September reveal.

Don’t pre-commit money to a predicted rating. Ultimate Team markets reprice violently in the 48 hours after official ratings drop. Buying on a forecast that turns out to be a point high is how people lose coins on day one.

Watch the reveal order, not just the numbers. EA reveals in tranches, and the order itself signals where it thinks the marketing value is. A player revealed early is a player EA wants talked about.

The FC 27 Closed Beta running August 5–25 is the first real-data moment. Beta builds have historically carried placeholder or near-final ratings, and while testers are under a streaming ban, information from closed betas has a long history of not staying closed.
