Comments
When you leave a comment, we collect the data shown in the comment form (name, email address, and comment content), plus your IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check whether you are using it; the Gravatar service’s privacy policy applies to that lookup. After a comment is approved, your profile picture (if any) is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies for convenience so you don’t have to fill them in again on your next comment. These cookies last for one year. Logging in also sets a small number of cookies to remember your login session; these are cleared when you log out.
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use this site (pages viewed, time on site, traffic source). Google Analytics sets cookies and collects your IP address (truncated/anonymized where supported), device and browser information, and browsing behavior on this site. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties except: Google (for analytics and advertising, as described above), spam-detection services (to evaluate comments), and our hosting provider (as necessary to operate the site).
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. Registered users’ personal information is also stored in their user profile; users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except their username). Analytics data is retained per Google Analytics’ default retention settings.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Site administrators can fulfil these requests using the Export Personal Data and Erase Personal Data tools built into WordPress.
